Wine and Black

Happy Friday Beautiful Ones! Today it is warm and sunny and beautiful! It feels more like spring or summer than fall. I am preparing for all of the Halloween festivities with my little one. Tonight is our date night, so we will be hanging out  and tomorrow and Monday we will be attending carnivals and going trick or treating. We are both excited! We are very close and do lots of fun things together. Since today is so warm, I wore a simple t-shirt and vest and a flouncy little skirt. Hiding in the back of my closet was this cute little clutch and I dug out my wine oxfords to pair with it. Perfect for a day like this. What are your Halloween plans?

Garlic Cheddar Biscuits!

If you have ever dined at Red Lobster, you are probably familiar with the garlic cheddar biscuits that come piping hot in a basket before your dinner arrives.  If you have not tried them, I must say that they are definitely ADDICTIVE!!!! I could easily eat the whole basket of biscuits by myself. I wanted to recreate them at home and I came across a recipe and added some of my own special touches to make it extra special. The secret to a deliciously flaky buttery biscuit is buttermilk. I tried this recipe with all purpose flour and then I tried it with Bisquick and both versions are delicious. So roll up your sleeves and lets get started and I must warn you, this is not diet food, so be prepared to work out and burn them off or have them in small quantities:-)

I am telling you these are worth making and now you dont't have to go to Red Lobster to have them!

Look at all that rich buttery goodness...Paula Deen would be proud...LOL

My son could not stop eating these delicious flaky biscuits.  They are sooo good!

Cheddar Garlic Biscuits

Ingredients

2 ½ cups bisquick

¾ cup  buttermilk

½ stick butter

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Garlic Butter Topping

2 Tablespoons butter melted

¼ teaspoon dried parsley flakes

½ teaspoon garlic powder

Pinch of salt

Note: I substituted regular milk with buttermilk and added a dash of cajun seasoning to the batter.

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

2. Combine Bisquick with cold butter in a medium bowl using a pastry cutter or a large fork. You don't want to mix too thoroughly. There should be small chunks of butter in there that are about the size of peas. Add cheddar cheese, buttermilkmilk, and ¼ teaspoon garlic. Mix by hand until combined, but don't over mix.

3. Drop approximately spoonfuls of the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet using an ice cream scoop or a spoon.

4. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown.

5. When you take the biscuits out of the oven, melt 2 tablespoons butter is a small bowl in your microwave. Stir in ½ teaspoon garlic powder and the dried parsley flakes. Use a brush to spread this garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits. Use up all of the butter.

Makes one dozen biscuits.

Pink and Black.+ Blog Award!

Happy Tuesday beautiful ones! Have you ever had a day where you just felt blah? I am having one of those days. It is overcast and slightly rainy and its just one of those days. On a pleasant note, I want to thank Jamie of the Lilac Closet for presenting me with a blog award! Thanks Jamie for presenting me with the "Tell Me About Yourself Award" I am very honored and these types of awards are always so fun!  My seven facts are featured towards the end of this post!

Wind and rain today! This scarf is very versatile and when I saw it I bought all the colors they had and since it was very inexpensive, I didn't feel any guilt at all! I love wearing this as a wrap and Audrey Hepburn style:-)

Tapping into my inner Audrey Hepburn:-)

And sometimes on those blah days you have to do something silly and fun, like pretend you are a mannequin in a storefront window...LOL

And now on to my awesome blog award:-) The rules for receiving the award are to thank the blogger that awarded you, link back to their blog, post seven random facts about yourself and then pass on the award to fifteen other bloggers.

Here are seven random facts about me...

1. I am really tall. In fact, I am 5"10, but I don't let that stop me from wearing heels

2. I love salted caramel and I make a pretty mean salted caramel cupcake

3.  I will travel anywhere for a good meal!

4. I have been on television several times as a spokesperson and I didn't tell my friends and family until after I did then because I was so nervous about it. ( I know, pretty lame huh? hanging head in shame)

5. I always get into interesting conversations about the foods in my grocery basket when I shop at Ranch 99 market in Los Angeles because I often have exotic things like banana leaves or blue potatoes in my basket and people are curious about what I am going to do with them...LOL

6. I have been a dance fanatic since I was a little girl and have studied so many types of dance that I cannot keep track anymore, I won a dnace scholarship and a culinary scholarship in high school, but chose to pursue my other love (writing) in college

7. I completed my three year masters degree program in one year while working a full time job.

And now I pass this award on to fifteen lovely bloggers

I wanted to make an alternative to the pulled pork sandwiches they have at most barbecue joints and I thought this sweet, spicy, tangy barbecue chicken recipe was PERFECT! You can put this in a crock pot and forget all about it and the delicious results are perfect barbecue for sandwiches, served over pasta, rice or any yummy variation you can think of:-)

Even if you don't know how to cook, or are pressed for time. It really does not get any easier than this. You can literally throw this in a crockpot and go shopping, take a nap, or whatever your pleasure is and this amazing chicken will be waiting when you are done!

 Pulled Barbecue Chicken

Ingredients

6 Boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 12 oz bottle barbecue sauce
1/2 cup Italian Salad Dressing
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

Directions

Place chicken in crockpot. Combine barbecue sauce, dressing, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. and pour over the chicken. Cook on high for 3 hours. Take fork and shred chicken and then reduce to low and cook one more hour.

Doesn't this saucy barbecue chicken look amazing? It is!!!!!!

Of course, baked beans and potato salad are the perfect costars for this sandwich! If you don't have these on hand, chips make a great side for these yummy sandwiches too!

Miss Mister...

Happy Monday Beautiful Ones! One thing I love about this time of year, is wearing lots of great hats, which include my favorites: Fedoras and newsboy caps. I have always loved sharp menswear inspired looks and today I am wearing some menswear inspired pieces with a feminine twist. I am getting settled into my new community and finally able to take a breather after weeks of being swamped with a million different projects. I am back to cooking and baking, so be sure to check out the new recipes that I will be posting:-) How was your weekend?
